Michael Hayes - President & CEO [-]
I have the unique privilege of working with a talented and diverse group of people who are very passionate about what we do. Together we certainly are more than the sum of our parts! My focus is on building and leading a company dedicated to employee development, sustainable growth and profitability.

I spend most of my "off hours" with my wife and family. I sneak in a round of golf now and then, but you're more likely to find me at the controls of a Bonanza, Archer or other small airplane in search of that "perfect landing."

I am a big fan of Abraham Lincoln, and I'll close with a favorite quote from him regarding the relationship between work and wealth.

"Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration." Lincoln's First Annual Message to Congress, December 3, 1861.

Eugene M. Hayes - Chairman [-]
Being in the "business" of public school education since the '60s I've witnessed many technological changes that effect how schools operate. As a practitioner in New England until 1970, I helped introduce the computer to campus level administration for attendance accounting, report card processing, and student scheduling. Since then among my many roles in education-related business, that of consultant to administrators all over the United States has been the most satisfying. My work has focused on expanding the use of technology as a means of improving administrative performance in schools.

As Chairman of Hayes Software Systems, I have the unique opportunity to help identify and define the kind of working relationship between business and school administration that will be required in the Information Age. While not completely clear, yet, there does seem to be at least two hallmarks that will characterize this relationship:

1. A commitment from vendors to provide sensitive, expert, and timely support to customers

2. A determination to develop products and services that quickly and readily adapt to changes in customers' needs.

We seek to establish Hayes Software Systems as one of the leading providers of software and expert services for school administrators.

All work and no play can make anyone a dull person! I enjoy traveling and visiting our grandchildren in Alaska, Texas, and Washington (we've recently moved to Georgia). Being a "live in grandparent" has changed the lives of my wife and I (guess we were getting too complacent in Austin). It keeps us very busy with something new everyday! I maintain an active contact with our staff in Austin, too. Reading is always enjoyable, particularly if the book involves cultural history, philosophy, cosmology, or a great detective story. Most recently, as I ease into joining the "senior population," I find that greater involvement in work within my church organization is very rewarding and opens a dimension on management and administration I was not at all familiar with.

Shawn Carlson - VP of Customer Relations [-]
Hi, I'm Shawn Carlson. I read somewhere that "every person in this life has something to teach me - and as soon as I accept that, I open myself to truly listening." I have been employed with Hayes Software Systems since 1997 and have come to many understandings about customer service in that time. The most prevalent is to listen and truly understand what the customer is saying and act if possible. That being said one of my favorite quotes is from Benjamin Franklin: "Well done is better than well said."

I am over Customer Relations. Any concern, question or comment you have about anything to do with the company, products, services etc. is fair ground to communicate to me. I also am product manager for our textbook tracking lines of software.

On a personal note, I am an alumnus from KU (Kansas University - Jayhawk) and a member of ASTD (American Society for Training and Development). Even better, I am a proud Uncle of two wonderful kids. They are my sister's, Rosalie. Trevor is just like his uncle was at that age - a tall and skinny monkey. Jessica is absolutely beautiful girl that chases after her brother just like my own sister did me.

Regina Jackson - Accounting Specialist [-]
I joined the staff in April 2004 as the Accounting Specialist and am responsible for everything dealing with money from billing to spending. If you have questions about your account, I'm the person to contact.

Now, here's the interesting part. My family and I are considered "gear heads", meaning that we like hot rods and drag racing. Brent, my husband, rebuilt a '72 Nova in our garage, which we cruise around town in and drag race (on the strip) as often a possible. Travis, our twelve-year old son, is part of the pit crew, or as he likes to think of himself as the Crew Chief. He'll probably be racing (on the drag strip) before he's officially driving. It's an exciting hobby. Our daughter, Erin, and son-in-law, Chris, who do missionary work in the Ukraine once per year, are both working and going to school, and enjoy going racing with us on occasion. I also enjoy a variety of other activities such as gardening, sewing, reading and cooking, just to name a few.

There is an incredibly unique and wonderful combination of people employed here and I count my blessings for the opportunity to spend the majority of each working day with them.

Janet Smith - Administrative Assistant [-]
Hi, I'm Janet Smith. I guess you could say that I have the job that all of my friends want. Part time, very flexible hours and the greatest people to work with. I get to do a little bit of everything around here, but mainly I am the Inventory and Fulfillment specialist. I have been at Hayes for more than 10 years and have enjoyed every minute of it. So, if I can't answer your question myself, I'll know who can.

On a personal side, I enjoy golfing and spending time with my 2 ½ year old grandson, Luke. He is the "sunshine of my life". To my golf game, well, let's just say I am giving myself a goal in 2006 to break 100 (I'll be sure to let you know the day that happens J)

Tom Luangviphat - Quality Assurance Engineer [-]
Hi, I'm Tom. I am so happy to be a part of the fun and hard working group of people. I do a lot of testing for TIPWeb software. I also create test cases making sure that TIPWeb features and functionality work how we envision them to work! I have been in the software industry over 10 years and this is one of the best!!!

About me, I have been living in Austin since 1998. I have traveled all over the place and I just don't see myself moving out of Austin. I love it here. I grew up in San Antonio and went to UT San Antonio. I graduated with a degree in Computer Science in 1995. I love plants and animals. I spend most of my free time gardening and taking care of my two cats, two bunnies, and many fish tanks at home. I am the Director of Sales & Marketing for Hayes Software Systems. My goal is to help schools find the right software to solve their problems. Through daily contact with educators across the country, I have realized the impact they make on our world. As a new mom, I hope to give back to the community that will one day educate my sons.

A little more about me... I am a Southwest Texas State Bobcat! Go Bobcats! I love the outdoors, almost every sport, and anything that is a challenge. My husband and I were married in September of 2000 and added to our family on Feb. 14th, 2003 with the addition of our first son Reid. Yes, a Valentine's baby! He is a true joy in our lives and a spittin' image of his father, Scott. Our second son just arrived in September, Ryder Luke. He also looks like his father, so I guess my genes are passed on through personality and not looks. My other babies are Daisy May and Zoe, a Bassett Hound and Black Lab. We have a very busy family life, but it is wonderful. My family and friends are my world. I have a younger sister who I look to for guidance; she is the one who keeps me grounded. My parents are high school sweethearts and they are the ones who taught me how to love and live. I am also a huge Minnesota Vikings fan, maybe next year they will have a better season. My family (both sides) are from Two Harbors, Minnesota and we all love the Vikes!

Allison Benjamin - Account Manager [-]
As Account Manager, my primary function is to get your questions answered and help find a solution to meet your needs. My involvement won't end with the sale, I will be directly involved in the presentation, implementation, and support of our products. I can attest to our customer dedication by the fact that I am on call 24/ 7. wait.. no one else is on call??

I am a true Austinite. not too many of us left. Take the test to see if you make the honorary list.

1. Danced the two-step at the Broken Spoke.
2. Climbed to the top of Mount Bonnell.
3. Viewed downtown from the top of the U.T. tower (Go Horns).

Amanda Peters - Account Manager [-]
As a former elementary teacher, I understand the demands on teachers and school personnel. In my role as account manager, it is my goal to provide solutions that will maximize the ability of the school district to provide the best possible education to every child.

Born and raised in East Tennessee, I grew up in the beautiful foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. A graduate of Carson-Newman College, I hold a degree in elementary education and a Masters in curriculum and instruction. My husband, Bill, and I have made Austin our home for the past two years with our yellow lab, Whitlee.   Growing up in the shadows of Neyland Stadium, I am a huge Tennessee Volunteers fan. My husband is nuts about the Buckeyes so we enjoy watching our favorite football teams in the fall. An ideal weekend for us is to visit our family and friends in Tennessee and Ohio.  We also enjoy traveling and playing golf.

T.D. Winters - Account Manager [-]
I'm T.D. Winters, yes it is short for Touch Down. Even though my legal name is Mary Therese, my Daddy nicknamed me, and the name stuck with me! Daddy was a coach, administrator, and one of my best friends. When people asked him what he did for a living, he would always say, "I'm in school business."

So, I grew up in a family in "school business". I was the black sheep when I did not major in Education. With a degree in Finance, I entered the world of banking and became VP of Credit and Loan Administration in a bank Corpus Christi. In 1997, I was offered the opportunity to work for Dell Financial Services. While at DFS, I was exposed to K12, Higher Ed, Government and Federal customers. I learned about funding cycles, software and technology. I felt a tug at my heart to work more with people in school business. I moved from DFS to DELL and sold software and peripherals. Eventually at DELL, I was offered a position with the Education Alliance team which led me to working directly with K12 school districts. I learned much about school districts and gained a passion for delivering quality solutions.

I'm thrilled to be part of Hayes! My desires are to: spend quality time with my husband Drew and my daughters Laurel & Kathryn Woodman, and love my work. I look forward to having an opportunity to meet you, work with you, and work with your school district.

Marti Burch - Educational Consultant [-]
As a retired junior high school assistant principal, I love sharing with people the fact that if I had had the Hayes Software System to manage my textbook inventory, I would probably still be a junior high assistant principal. But, as they say, everything happens for a reason and in its own time.

Now, I couldn't be happier than being an Educational Consultant with Hayes for the past three years. Actually, working with school personnel and being able to offer solutions is just about the most rewarding career for me. I am really confidant in the folks at Hayes who work to make educators' lives easier by freeing up their time and work load.

Being a native Texan I have a B.S. degree from East Texas State University, and two M.A. degrees from Texas Woman's University. Throughout my 31 year career in education, I taught every grade from K to 12 with the most number of years in the middle level. Coaching volleyball, cross country and track were my greatest thrills, and I was blessed to have had a few state champions along the way in track and cross country.

Now days when I'm not talking about Hayes Software, I spend my time caring for my 90 year old mother and my 9 year old cat, Socks. I love working out, herb gardening and traveling (especially to the mountains). My plan is to see all fifty states before I die. My most recent accomplishments have been climbing to the top of Notre Dame in France and Diamond Head in Hawaii.

I'm Anna Maxin, the Marketing Coordinator at Hayes Software Systems. I handle promotions, advertising, and the creation of sales tools. I'm always interested in hearing what's on the minds of current and potential customers so you might also see me at trade shows and conventions.

I'm also a Southwest Texas State grad, or Texas State as it is now named. I have made Austin my home for eight years now and I can't imagine living anywhere else. I'm married and we have a new addition to our family, Gravy, the cutiest little boxer pup right next to our first baby girl boxer, Biscuit. They both keep us very busy but they are lots of fun.

Laura Sager - Research & Development Manager [-]
Howdy, my name is Laura G. Sager. As Research & Development Manager, my duties include enhancing the capabilities of our Textbook Inventory Program (TIP) and Park It. (I am the one in the dark room with an endless supply of diet coke.) In addition, Debbie, Shawn, Dan, and Donna sometimes allow me to talk to you in customer support situations. They also, sometimes, send me to exotic training opportunities like North Dakota in the dead of winter (Think they are trying to tell me something?). I am also responsible for implemting TIPWeb in your district. As the only Aggie on board, I have to say, "Gig 'em Aggies! Whoop!" (We finally beat TU (2006)!)

Now, is the time in my bio that I am supposed to tell you about all my wonderful hobbies and interests. For me, this portion will be short. My husband and I have two incredible daughters. Enough said, right? Our oldest is all of 5 years old. Her name is Joanna and is definitely large and in charge at our house. Second in line to the Sager throne is Emily. She is all of two and is currently enjoying the trials and tribulations of potty training. Her face (which I am told looks just like her Daddy's) lights up every time her big sister enters the room. Let's see how long that will last. In addition to our two children, our family consists of a an awesome dog named, Moose (Unlike many family pets, Moose considers the children a bonus--he has never eaten so well!)

Nathan Southerland - Lead Developer [-]
My goal is to help lead our development team into practices that will increase our software quality and the efficiency with which we can respond to your needs. Keeping one eye on the technological horizon and one on the changing needs of our customer base, I hope to find the perfect point at which technology and business needs meet.

I graduated from Texas A&M University - Commerce (formerly East Texas State University) in 1998 with a B.S. in Computer Science, and received my MCSD .NET certification in 2002. I've worked in the software industry for the majority of the time since earning my undergraduate degree, taking a short hiatus in order to complete my M. A. in Practical Theology.

My wife, Debbie, and I are both native Texans, but relatively recent immigrants to the Austin area, having sojourned in Virginia for six years. We adopted our first child, William Alexander, in 2005. I enjoy spending time with my family; making music with guitar, trumpet and singing; reading a wide variety of books; playing the occasional computer game; and visiting our extended family in Northeast Texas, Houston, and the rest of the U. S.

Hi, my name is Warren C. LaFrance, Jr. and I was born in Monroe, Louisiana. I have a degree in CINS (Computer Information Network Systems)

My focus in the computer industry has been in integrating business-to-business communications with legacy systems using new technologies like web-services and xml. My main focus with Hayes Software, Inc. will be to lend my programming skills in the further refinement of the TipWeb Application. I have been writing enterprise-level software for over 5 years now for companies like L-3 Communications (GSI), Northrop Grumman Industries and other companies who are leaders in their specific industries.

After relocating to Austin because of the difficulties faced in New Orleans post Katrina, I have fallen in love with this great city, the wonderful people and have decided to make it my home. Debbie Disler - Program Director of Customer

Hello, I'm Debbie Disler and I truly enjoy being a part of the Hayes Software Systems team. I bring with me 15 years experience in the education field, 12 of which were as a district textbook coordinator and PEIMS coordinator for a fast growing school district in Texas. My role at Hayes is to help customers use our software products to simplify their jobs. It is my goal to provide assistance in answering your questions when you call us and to provide comprehensive, worthwhile training sessions.

When not working, I spend time with my husband and two daughters. They keep us busy running from volleyball and basketball games. I enjoy spending time outdoors and am thankful that Texas winters are mild and short. I spend time revitalizing myself by taking walks, bicycling and horseback riding.

My name is Dan Stewart. I am a customer support specialist for Hayes Software Systems. I was in the education business in Texas for 20 years, 9 years as a Textbook Coordinator and a TIP user since 1996-97. This experience gives me some insight with textbook operations that I can bring to you as well as to the TIP development effort. I've been a part of the Hayes Software Systems team for 6 years, and I'm excited about providing TIP (WIN or WEB) user training to the many school districts that we serve. I look forward to working with all of our customers.

Donna Kohn - Customer Support &

Hi, I'm Donna Kohn and I will probably be the voice on the phone when you call for technical support. I am here to help you with problems that you experience with any of our products and won't give up until we find a solution for your situation. Before joining the Hayes team, I was the "financial" bookkeeper at a high school here in central Texas and introduced myself to the TIP program in an effort to cut down on our textbook losses. After using the program the way it was designed, our losses dropped dramatically in the second year! I know first hand how many hats you all wear in your positions so I like that I am still able to support you in some way and make your jobs a little easier when you and I can work through your issues with TIP.

This job has also introduced me to the world of computers and I am loving it. As a result, I am taking some courses in both programming and technical writing and plan to pursue both further. I hope that I never lose this desire that I have to learn new things.

Outside of work I love spending time with my husband and kiddos. My oldest daughter is married and teaches in Fort Worth ISD, I have two daughters attending Texas State both working toward degrees in education, and last, but certainly not least, a son who is a sophomore in high school. Rounding out the family are three dogs and a bird!

Hi there, I'm Manda and chances are it is my voice you've heard lately when calling the Hayes Sales line. I also lend a hand in answering and directing the calls during the busy times for the Lone Star customer support team. My duties do not end there and I find the many hats I wear to be an exciting and challenging endeavor. When not answering phones I spend my time working on various internal office support items including but not limited to managing our customer relation management software, updating various aspects of our customers files within our CRM (customer relation management) tool, entering in new sales leads and getting our information packets and demos out and into the right hands, dancing and wrestling with sharepoint, as well as any other task that comes my way. Needless to say, I am never bored on the job and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I am a New Orleans native born and raised and whereas the heartbeat of the city still pulses in my veins I am very happy with my new home here in Austin. In my spare time I find myself reading, seeking out interesting movies, or exploring the many hiking trails that this city has to offer. My favorite "hobby" as of late has been creating bento style lunches to enjoy while at work, these lunches are often quite colorful, flavorful and healthy concoctions. These days I am very much a homebody finding much enjoyment in building my new life but I've been known to have a good time out and about when coaxed from my cave. Also, through several strange turns of events in my life I've become a cat person with 3 little furry alarm clocks making sure that I rise at the correct time every morning.

Hello, I'm Kathie Guthrie and I am very excited to be a part of the Lone Star Customer Support Team here at Hayes Software Systems. I once heard that for every unsatisfied customer 11 potential customers will follow. My number one goal being in the customer support arena is to do all that I can to prove this statement is false.

To be a successful business and provide exceptional support there is a formula you should live and work by. This formula when used properly, I feel is the key:

I am originally from Northern California, moving to Texas in 2003. I have 15 years previous experience in a technical/customer support role working in the financial software industry. I am married to the love of my life, have four beautiful children, a wonderful daughter-in-law and have been blessed with my first grand-daughter this past February. We enjoy four wheeling, fishing, and having family and friends over on a Saturday evening to play cards and throw a couple horseshoes.
