Simi Valley Unified School District Distributes 4,000 Chromebooks in Under a Month

Simi Valley Unified School District had been searching for an asset management system for the past five years. It seemed that the district wasn’t able to justify the budget required to implement an asset solution in order to manage devices.

However, in March of 2020, COVID-19 introduced a brand-new challenge. The district needed to implement an emergency take-home, sending staff and students home with over four thousand Chromebooks in the span of weeks.

Simi Valley USD is the second largest school district in Ventura County, CA. Located in the Greater Los Angeles Area, Simi Valley has over 16,500 enrollment across 30 campuses.

Philip Scrivano, the Director of Simi Valley’s IT Department, was able to implement TIPWeb-IT in under two weeks, training the staff, importing asset data, distributing devicesand getting everything up and running.

Philip says that new software rarely is as user-friendly and easy-to-use as TIPWeb-IT. “We were able to figure it out,” he said, and in no time, they were issuing out Chromebooks in parking lots to hundreds of people at a time.

“From having no budget for this to all of the sudden there is an absolute need,” added Philip. “We have a lot of IT projects, but what is really evident is that we’re in the Chromebook business right now. And we will be for quite a while.”

Sure enough, those four thousand deployed are just the beginning. The districts upcoming 1:1 initiative means that there are many more devices that need to be tracked. And from there, they can keep staff and students accountable, increase oversight, and ultimately save resources, time, and money.

“You guys pulled it off. Your team helped us through our emergency so that now we can organize our data,” said Philip.

What’s next for Simi Valley USD? With the ease-of-use that TIPWeb-IT allows, the team can already manage the entire lifecycle of the district’s assets. With more training and the full power of the platform, Philip’s team can gain complete visibility, track assets used for remote learning, and simplify the team’s workflows.
